Machine Learning
I'm fascinated that simple probability can appear so intelligent.
I'm open to new opportunities.

I am looking for ways to detect the geometry of a room from just a photo.
I like the challenge of figuring out puzzles, from crosswords to Wordle to jigsaws.
Lately, I have been dabbling in projects around the house, like an automatic bird bath cleaner.

Personalized record recommendation API backing 30 interactive stations in The American Story gallery. A combination of AI-driven tagging and semantic reranking surfaces relevant matches from a set of 2 million records.
iPad-first app for designing artwork arrangements. Import your artwork or browse The Met, photograph your space, drag and drop, and preview arrangements in your room with AR.
A search platform for local cultural events. An aggregation pipeline merged event data from upstream APIs, and the admin frontend supported manual create, edit, import, and export.
Microcredential authoring and assessment platform. Admins authored assessments and criteria, recipients completed assessments, and reviewers moderated awards.
Image Classification
I fine-tuned a MobileNet-based classifier on indoor scene datasets and deployed it into a Flutter app for on-device inference.
Reinforcement Learning
I trained an agent to navigate a simulated frozen lake using two reinforcement learning approaches and compared the results.
Literature Review
I surveyed the literature on data augmentation for video-based computer vision tasks to identify promising areas for future research.
I grew up in Eugene, Oregon. After high school, I spent six years in the Air Force as an Airborne Cryptologic Linguist in Korean. I was always interested in software, so when I separated I went to the University of Oregon for Computer Science.
I took my first job at a client services software company. Because there were always new clients and projects, I was able to learn a lot of new tools and techniques. My responsibilities and level of project ownership also grew over the years.
In 2019, my wife and I decided to travel the world. We bought a one-way ticket to the Azores. We saw a wide swath of western Europe (and Morocco!) before COVID made us turn our attention back homeward.
I decided to go back to school for machine learning. During my master's program at Oregon State University, my wife and I founded our startup. We learned a lot! We moved to Pennsylvania as a way to explore a new area, access new cities, and be closer to family.
Since then, I've found great fulfilment building interactive experiences for museums.
